When does my Speaking recording start and stop?

You do not need to press a record button. For each Speaking task:

1. The prompt plays once.
2. You hear a beep.
3. Recording starts automatically and runs for the set time for that task.
4. When the time is up, recording stops on its own.

Your recordings upload as you go, so you can move straight on to the next task.

A few tips:

• Start speaking right after the beep, not before it.
• Try to use most of the time. A short answer gives less to score.
• Keep a steady distance from the microphone.

Speaking practice sets in Practice are always timed in the same way, so they are a good place to get used to the rhythm before a mock.
